Ever thought about having a solo trip in Florida for the holidays?

1. St. Augustine, Florida

If Florida had a “Christmas main character,” it would be St. Augustine.

The vibe is old-world charm meets holiday sparkle, and as a solo traveler it’s ridiculously easy to enjoy at your own pace.

Exploring St. Augustine, Florida

I have family from this area so trips were frequent when I was a kid. However, I didn’t come to appreciate this city until I was an adult and visited during Christmas for the first time during my birthday weekend.

I was totally blown away at how much the city is on one accord when it comes to turning this old town into a winter wonderland in north Florida.

Now it’s a MUST-DO for me every single year!

What I did + loved:

During my visits I’ve wandered the historic district at night when the lights felt like they’re hugging the streets.

Plus, I took my time people-watching, popping into shops, and snapping photos without anyone rushing me.

I even treated myself to something warm such as hot coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening (a non-negotiable on vacation).

Holiday things to do:

Along with the nights-of-lights style strolling (the whole city glows so bring a phone charger because you’ll take 300 photos), there are carriage rides for peak “I’m in a Christmas movie” energy.

Castillo de San Marcos St Augustine Fort

Below are my favorite things to do:

  • Get into the holiday spirit with the “Light-Up Night!” on November 15th (this is one of the best things to do on your solo trip to Florida for the holidays!)
  • Celebrate beachside at the ceremonial lighting at the St. Augustine Beach Pier on November 22nd
  • St. Augustine’s 68th Annual Christmas Parade takes place on December 6th
  • Join in the recreation of historic Night Watches on December 6th
  • The waters light up for a nautical festive competition on December 13th for the Regatta of Lights

Don’t forget to take a waterfront walk along the bayfront, especially if you want something calming and scenic.

Little details + solo tips:

  • Go later in the evening for the best glow and fewer crowds
  • Comfortable shoes. The streets are charming… and also very walk-heavy.
  • Do one of the amazing tours while you’re on your trip!
  • If you’re solo, lean into the freedom: pause when you want, detour when you want, and don’t apologize for it.

2. Walt Disney World

Disney at Christmas is basically a dopamine playlist for your eyeballs. It’s classic, it’s cozy, it’s over-the-top, and yes, it can be a lot… which is exactly why going solo is kind of genius.

Merry Christmas from ThemeParkHipster!

What I did + loved:

On my solo Disney trips, I always focus on the resort decorations (because they’re free to enjoy and wildly underrated).

I build in “quiet moments” between the chaos, like sitting with a snack and just watching the atmosphere happen.

It’s one of the easiest ways to enjoy Walt Disney World alone.

Your solo strategy should also include: mobile ordering your food, snagging a good viewing spot early for popular entertainment, and taking breaks before you “need” them.

3. Christmas in Mount Dora, Florida

Mount Dora is one of those places that feels like a hug from a small-town Christmas dream but with Florida flair.

Downtown Mount Dora Florida Lakeside Inn Hotel

It’s charming, walkable, and perfect for a solo day trip when you want something festive without theme park intensity.

I grew up in the Lake County area so I had to add this destination for your solo Florida trip for the holidays. Plus, it’s only a 45 minute drive from Walt Disney World Resort.

What I did + loved:

Whenever I’m here, I enjoy wandering through the downtown shops and let myself browse slowly.

Downtown Mount Dora Florida One Flight Up Coffee Shop
One Flight Up Coffee and Wine Shop

I just soak in the lights and decorated streets. Plus, the TODAY Show was recently here to cover all that this charming Florida town has to offer.

Holiday things to do:

  • Check out the Christmas Walk: this is a full-out, family-friendly holiday street party in downtown Mount Dora (December 5th and 6th, 2025). This is one of the best things to do on your solo trip to Florida for the holidays!
  • Holiday light displays around town.
  • Seasonal shopping: unique gifts that aren’t from a big box store.

So, if you can catch a boat parade or community event, it’s the kind of wholesome that resets your nervous system (something we all need after such a challenging year).

Solo traveler notes:

  • Park once and walk. This is an “aimless wandering is the plan” kind of place.
  • Go early if you want calm (and easy parking); however, go at night if you want sparkle.

4. SeaWorld Orlando

SeaWorld at Christmas has always surprised me…in a good way!

The park leans into an aquatic, yet classic holiday atmosphere with millions of lights, seasonal entertainment, and a vibe that feels festive without being too chaotic.

Let’s not forget that SeaWorld has some of the best roller coasters in Florida such as Mako!

What I did + loved:

During my solo trips to SeaWorld Orlando, I focus on the holiday shows and the light displays, and I don’t stress trying to do everything.

I ALWAYS treat it like a “wander + snack + vibes” type of solo trip.

Holiday things to do:

Little details:

  • Arrive before sunset so you can see the park transform from day to night.
  • Do the rides in the daytime and save the holidays happenings for the evening
  • Solo travel tip: shows are your built-in rest breaks so plan them like little resets.

5. Clearwater Beach, Florida

Christmas at a Florida beach is my favorite kind of plot twist. Especially when celebrating the holidays in Florida.

The-Avalon-Hotel-in-Clearwater.-One-of-the-best-places-to-stay-in-Tampa.-Gulf-of-Mexico-beach-View-from-the-balcony-with-Pirate-ship

Clearwater is bright, breezy, and feels like the holiday season… but softer. Less “go-go-go,” more “deep breath.”

What I did + loved:

On my recent trip, I took a long shoreline walk and let the ocean do what it does best: calm everything down (especially as I go through a difficult divorce).

The-Avalon-Hotel-in-Clearwater-rooftop-bar-with-NikkyJ-enjoy-a-Cherry-Lime-Sangria-Margarita.-One-of-the-best-places-to-stay-in-Tampa

I also watched the sunset like it was a scheduled appointment (because it should be).

Just be sure to book your stay at the Avalon Club. It’s one of my favorite hotels in Clearwater Beach, Florida.

Holiday things to do:

  • Beach strolls + sunset views (this is the main event).
  • Put your skills to the test at Clearwater Beach’s Escape Room
  • Visit Clearwater Marine Aquarium and on December 20th they have Breakfast with Santa
  • Go on a dolphin cruise and enjoy a relaxing day on the water
  • Unwind along the The Clearwater Beach Walk
  • Bring your favorite beverages and head out on a Floating Tiki Boat Cruise
  • Clearwater Yacht Club Annual Holiday Boat Parade on December 13th
  • Christmas brunch with Santa on December 28th at Latitude 28
  • More seasonal happenings near the pier/downtown area: usually lights, music, or festive pop-ups.

HIPSTER POWER TIP: Be sure to bring a light layer. Florida evenings can turn cool fast, especially near the water.

6. Universal Orlando Resort

There’s no way I could leave Universal Orlando off of this “Florida in the holidays solo trip” list.

Christmas at Universal Orlando Holiday Parade featuring Macy's Toy Solider

Universal during the holidays is loud in the best way with big energy, big decorations, big “OMG I need a picture right here.”

Here I am enjoying all of the fun Grinchy festivities at Universal Orlando Resort!

It’s a great solo stop if you love immersing yourself in the atmosphere and hopping between areas fast.

What I did + loved:

I love leaning into the holiday music + décor, and I let myself be a kid with grown-up money for a few hours.

I make time for “just walking” moments because Universal is full of details you miss when you’re sprinting ride-to-ride. Making it one of the best things to do on your solo trip to Florida for the holidays!

Holiday things to do:

  • Grinchmas: Did you really visit Universal for the holidays if you didn’t experience this…
  • Festive food and drinks: I’m a sucker for limited-time treats.
  • Macy’s Holiday Parade: This is a MUST-DO for your Universal Orlando solo trip!
  • Christmas with Harry Potter: You’ll love the magic that comes alive in both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade.
  • Check out the holiday décor throughout the parks and resort areas.

Little details:

  • Go with a flexible plan because the crowds can shift fast.
  • Solo advantage: Using the Single Rider Lines (when available) can save your whole day.
  • Take advantage of the Mobile Ordering system to get your food quickly.

7. Leesburg, Florida

Now we’re in the town where I grew up in the heart of Florida!

Ski-Beach-Bar-and-Grill-at-Venetian-Gardens-in-Leesburg-Florida-2

Leesburg is one of those “real Florida” holiday stops that’s highly community-centered, cozy, and perfect when you want something relaxed and local.

What I did + loved:

Whenever I’m back home, I like to take a slow evening walk through decorated areas (especially in Venetian Gardens) and let it feel simple.

Lake Harris at Venetian Gardens in Leesburg, Florida

It gives me that small-town holiday feeling without needing a big itinerary.

Plus, I always get a bit emotional thinking about the fun times I had growing up here and all of the holiday memories that my parents helped create for me.

Holiday things to do:

  • Local Christmas parades, tree lightings, or seasonal events (these vary year to year, so check dates).
  • Strolling through downtown and grabbing a casual meal or dessert.
  • Solo tip: This is a great “pair it with Mount Dora and even Tavares” stop if you want a full day of small-town holiday charm.

8. Busch Gardens Tampa

Now it’s time to head over to Tampa, Florida!

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay Christmas Town Tree with NikkyJ

Busch Gardens Christmastown is a whole vibe: big lights, seasonal entertainment, and that extra sparkle that makes you forget you’re basically celebrating the holidays in a state where it can be 78 degrees.

What I did + loved:

Whenever I visit Busch Gardens for the holidays, I like to focus on the food, the light displays and the nighttime atmosphere.

This is what makes me happy and the roller coasters are just the cherry on top! Plus, it’s one of the best things to do on your solo trip to Florida for the holidays!

Basically, I treat it like an experience, not a checklist.

Holiday things to do:

  • Christmas lights throughout the park (prime photo territory).
  • Seasonal shows (such as the ice-skating show) and festive food.
  • If you’re into thrills, coasters at night hit differently (especially Iron Gwazi).

Little details:

  • Arrive before dark for smoother entry and better pacing.
  • Wear comfy shoes (this park involves a lot of walking and it’s pretty big).
  • Review the menu before you go so that you can know what to add to your must-try list.

9. Orlando, Florida

This is the city where I reside so I had to add it to this because Orlando isn’t just theme parks, it also has a holiday city energy if you know where to look.

Johannessen Christmas Lights in Orlando

This is where you can build a festive day that’s more “local magic” than “park ticket.”

What I did + loved:

I did a cozy evening vibe: lights, music, warm drink, and a little wandering.

ICON-Park-Christmas-Tree-on-International-Drive.-One-of-the-best-things-to-do-in-Orlando-for-Christmas

Orlando during the holidays can feel surprisingly romantic… even when you’re solo (especially when you’re solo).

Holiday things to do:

  • Lake Eola Park area for seasonal lights and city vibes.
  • Leu Gardens-style light events if you want a stunning, walk-through display. This is one of the best things to do on your solo trip to Florida for the holidays!
  • Outlet shopping + festive treats around popular districts (perfect for a casual solo night out).
  • Get the full list of the best Orlando holiday happenings here!

HIPSTER POWER TIP: Orlando is great for “choose your own adventure” nights. So, keep it simple and let the city surprise you.

10. Pensacola Beach, Florida

Pensacola Beach is where I go when I want the holidays to feel peaceful.

Pensacola Beach, Florida

It’s not about nonstop activities, it’s about space, scenery, and a slower rhythm.

What I did + loved:

I walked the beach with zero agenda and honestly felt my shoulders drop.

It’s the kind of place that makes you reflect on the year (in a good way).

The Grinch at the Pensacola Winterfest

Plus, Pensacola Beach is not as busy as some of the other Florida beach towns are during this time of the year.

Holiday things to do:

  • Beach days with a holiday twist (pack a festive snack and pretend you’re in a Hallmark movie with sunscreen).
  • Be sure to check out Pensacola’s Winterfest where you can take photos with Santa and say hi to the Grinch!
  • Explore nearby Pensacola for seasonal events like holiday displays and downtown cheer (dates vary).

Just remember to bring a windbreaker/light jacket. Panhandle beaches can feel cooler than Central Florida.

My Final Thoughts on a Solo Florida Trip for the Holidays

Florida at Christmas is my favorite kind of unexpected: historic streets glowing with lights, theme parks going full sparkle mode, and beaches reminding you that rest is also part of the season.

And doing it solo?

Even better because you get to build the holiday experience you actually want.

If you’re planning your own Florida Christmas adventure, my best advice is this: mix the big magic (Disney/Universal/holiday events) with the quiet magic (beaches, small towns, slow walks under lights).

That balance is where the real holiday glow lives.
