Before You Go: Quick Planning Tips
Before we jump into each day, keep these basics in mind:
Tickets:
- Ideally: a 4-park ticket so you can hop between Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Epic Universe, and Volcano Bay.
- If you’re a Harry Potter fan (which I’m assuming you are), park-to-park access (between Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure) is a must so you can ride the Hogwarts Express.
On-site vs Off-site Stay:
- Staying at a Premier Universal hotel (like Hard Rock, Portofino Bay, or Royal Pacific) gets you Unlimited Express Pass for most attractions.
- Other on-site hotels still give you Early Park Admission to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter or Volcano Bay on select days (the Cabana Bay Beach Resort is my favorite option in this category).
Download the App:
- The Universal Orlando app will be your bestie for wait times, mobile ordering, and in-park navigation. Download it BEFORE you go and play around with it in order to get used to the features.
Solo Traveler Note:
Single Rider Lines at Universal are a game changer.
I use them whenever I can to knock out the big coasters and headliners quickly such as Revenge of the Mummy, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, Spider-man, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, and so much more!

Day 1: Arrival Day (Volcano Bay – Water Park Chill & Resort-Style Reset)
This will be more of a half-day start to your trip so we’re not going to waste it. Starting at Volcano Bay is the perfect way to begin your trip.
You’ll drop your bags off at your hotel, then hop on the Universal Orlando bus to jump into your watery adventure.
Late-Morning: Grab a Seat and Hop on the Big Slides
Once you get to this water park, you’ll want to:
- Put your stuff in a locker (if you’re solo and don’t have anyone to watch your items)
- Claim your seat for the day (leave a towel on your seat so that no one takes it)
- Krakatau Aqua Coaster
- The more intense body slides off the volcano if you’re brave.
- Float in the lazy river
- Enjoy the wave pool
- Explore the different areas without feeling rushed

Early Afternoon: Beachy Lunch & Relaxing Vibes
For lunch:
- Grab something casual from one of the quick-service spots. I like grabbing one of the delicious sandwiches at Kohola Reef Restaurant & Social Clubtacos)
- Treat yourself to a tropical drink at Dancing Dragon Boat Bare (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and find a shaded lounge chair or cabana area.
HIPSTER POWER TIP: This is the perfect day for reading a book, journaling, or just people-watching between slides. Give yourself permission to truly relax. You have 5 days—no need to go full commando touring style every moment.
Late-Afternoon: Repeat Favorites & Lazy Rivers
Spend your afternoon:
- Re-riding your favorite slides
- Floating the fearless river (if you like a little more intensity)
- Swimming and soaking in the views of the volcano
- Depending on your energy level: You can head back to your hotel mid-to-late afternoon to nap, shower, and reset.
Evening: Easy CityWalk Night
If you’re up for it:
- Head back out to CityWalk for a low-key evening.
- Try Bob Marley’s a Tribute to Freedom restaurant for their Taste of Jamaica sampler platter or Bigfire for a delicious, yet hearty steak.
- Or pop into Voodoo Doughnut for an over-the-top dessert treat.

Day 2: Universal Studios Florida (Classic Movie Magic & Wizarding World Warm-Up)
Your TRUE first day sets the tone, so we’re officially starting with Universal Studios Florida, home of movie magic, Diagon Alley, and some of the most classic vibes in the entire resort.
Morning: Rope Drop and First Big Attractions
Aim to arrive 45–60 minutes before park opening.
- Start with Minion Land and ride Despicable Me Minion Mayhem (it’s a good family-friendly warm-up and a fun way to ease into the day), then head over to Villain-Con to get the top score!
- Grab a snack in Minionland, then ride the Jimmy Fallon ride.
- Now it’s time for you to move toward Transformers: The Ride 3D and Revenge of the Mummy (an absolute must-do; indoor coaster, dark ride, and one of my personal faves)

Hipster Power Tip: If you’re solo, use the single rider line for Mummy and Transformers. You’ll knock out headliners quickly and free up more time for snacks. Priorities, right?
Late Morning: Diagon Alley Immersion
Now it’s time to disappear into The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley (my favorite area of the park).
Here you’ll walk through the London waterfront, snap a photo with the Knight Bus while peeking into King’s Cross Station.
After that, you’ll enter Diagon Alley through that hidden brick wall and let yourself breathe it all in for a second.
Must-dos:
- Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts
- Ollivanders Wand Shop (wand experience)
- Try Butterbeer (frozen is a fan favorite…hot butterbeer is my favorite, but you can’t go wrong experimenting over the 5 days!)
- Take your time exploring:
- Knockturn Alley (for your spooky aesthetic… it is a bit scary down there to me, lol)
- The shops like Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes and Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment
- Lunch Suggestions
- Stay in Diagon Alley and grab food at The Leaky Cauldron which serves traditional British-style pub food such as:
- Bangers and Mash
- Fisherman’s Pie
- Sticky Toffee Pudding
- Stay in Diagon Alley and grab food at The Leaky Cauldron which serves traditional British-style pub food such as:

HIPSTER POWER TIP: If you want something lighter, snack your way through Diagon Alley and grab a mid-day snack in San Francisco or New York sections.
Afternoon: Shows and Classic Attractions
After lunch, let your stomach settle with:
- The Bourne Stuntacular: high-tech stunt show and one of the best theme park shows in the country
- Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show: I love this show. It’s funny, surprising, and very “classic Universal!”
- Then hit E.T. Adventure: A nostalgic must-ride and one that I have fond memories of as a child riding it with my mom.
- Head over to The Simpsons Ride, then take a stroll around Springfield for those classic photo-ops.
- Get the highest score on Men in Black: Alien Attack: I love competing with the people in my vehicle for that high score!

Evening: Nighttime Vibes and CityWalk
As the sun starts to set:
- Revisit any favorites with lower wait times.
- Grab a snack or a drink in Springfield or New York (I recommend getting a crepe in Central Park).
Then, as you exit:
- Head to CityWalk for dinner.
- Toothsome Chocolate Emporium for over-the-top milkshakes and entrees
- Or VIVO Italian Kitchen if you’re craving pasta.

ThemeParkHipster Wind-Down: If you’re solo, find a quiet corner at CityWalk, sip your drink, and journal a little about your favorite moment from Day 2. It helps slow everything down and makes the trip feel extra intentional.
Day 3: Islands of Adventure (Big Coasters, Big Landscapes, Big Thrills)
On Day 3, it’s all about Islands of Adventure, aka “the land of epic photos and legendary coasters.”
Morning: Hit the Headliners First
If you have Early Park Admission and it’s for Islands of Adventure, start in Hogsmeade.
It’s here where you’ll rope drop Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. You’ll thank me later.
You’ll then head over to ride Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and explore Hogwarts Castle and the most magical queue; it’s part of the experience.
Then move toward:
Jurassic World VelociCoaster, one of the most intense and smooth coasters at Universal. If you’re a thrill-seeker, this will be love at first launch.
HIPSTER POWER TIP: Single rider lines are clutch for Forbidden Journey and sometimes VelociCoaster. You might not sit with your party, but you’ll fly through the line.
Late Morning: Jurassic & Toon Fun
After those big thrills:
Explore Jurassic Park more slowly:
- Jurassic Park River Adventure if you don’t mind getting wet.
- Check out the raptor encounter for fun character interactions.

Then you’ll stroll through Toon Lagoon which is great for colorful photos and water rides on a hot day with the two main rides: Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls and Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges.
Lunch Ideas
Now it’s time to eat and I love stopping by Confisco Grille for my loaded tuna Nachos and a glass of wine!
You can also get lunch at the famous Mythos Restaurant in The Lost Continent which is a popular table-service spot with gorgeous theming.

Or you can keep it cute and quick with Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade for rustic, cozy, Potter vibes.
Afternoon: Marvel Super Hero Island and More Rounds in Hogsmeade
Head to:
- Marvel Super Hero Island
- Conquer the Incredible Hulk Coaster
- Ride the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man (one of the best 3D dark rides ever!)
- Enjoy the character sightings with your favorite superheroes
Then loop back and finish your afternoon with another stroll through Hogsmeade, grabbing another Butterbeer, and enjoying the views.
Evening: Golden Hour Photos and Nighttime Magic
As the sky starts to glow:
- Take golden hour photos in Jurassic Park, Hogsmeade, and on the bridge near Hogwarts Castle.
- If nighttime shows or projections are happening on Hogwarts, hang around to watch the castle light up.

You’ll want to wrap up the day with a relaxing walk through Islands of Adventure, hitting any favorites one last time before Day 3 and having dinner at Pat O’Brien’s restaurant.

Day 4: Epic Universe (Portals, Dragons, Monsters, and Stardust)
On Day 4, we’re saving the best park for last and that’s Epic Universe!
Epic Universe is Universal’s newest park and it’s a whole different vibe: a luscious central hub (Celestial Park) ringed by four immersive “worlds” you enter through glowing portals.
Think: racing comets, classic monsters, dragon-rider training, a wizarding ministry mission, and a warp pipe into the Mushroom Kingdom.
Morning: Celestial Park to Super Nintendo World
Be at the gate before Early Park Admission (if you’re staying on-site) or at least 45 minutes before regular open.
I suggest that you start with a quick lap through Celestial Park to get your bearings while getting lost in the majesty of the fountains, gardens, and that shimmering skyline that sets the mood.

If you’re a coaster person, you can rope drop Stardust Racers (dual-launch racing coaster) now or save it for after dark when it’s extra gorgeous.
Now it’s time to head through the green pipe into SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. Priorities:
- Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge (AR dark ride)
- Yoshi’s Adventure (chill, scenic)
- Donkey Kong Country: Mine-Cart Madness (the “track-jumping” family coaster)

If you’re into interactive play, snag a Power-Up Band and start collecting digital coins as you explore. For lunch, Toadstool Cafe is the fan-favorite themed spot (mobile order if available…this will save you sooo much time!).
HIPSTER POWER TIP: If lines look wild, do Mine-Cart Madness first (this line moves the slowest in the land), then Mario Kart, then loop back for Yoshi. Keep an eye on the Universal app for shifting times as it’s your real-time strategy board.
Midday: Isle of Berk (How to Train Your Dragon)
Let’s now portal over to How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk for sweeping coastal views, live entertainment, and headline attractions like Hiccup’s Wing Gliders (family multi-launch coaster that delivers big smiles without wiping you out…it’s my favorite coaster in the park).
Grab snacks such as the mac-and-cheese cone while here and just enjoy the kinetic energy and the great photo-ops all over Berk.

Solo Moment: Catch a show, then find a waterside bench for 10 minutes of “I can’t believe this is real” before the afternoon push.
Afternoon: Dark Universe and Ministry of Magic
Time to feed your gothic heart in Dark Universe.
Do Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment (marquee dark ride), Curse of the Werewolf roller coaster, and wander Darkmoor Village for atmospheric character encounters… and yes, the Monsters really roam.
Be sure to grab a drink and a snack while hanging out with monster hunters in the Burning Blade Tavern.

You can also use this as an opportunity to have lunch in the Das Stakehaus if you didn’t like the food options at Toadstool Cafe.

Next, portal to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic for Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry (trackless dark ride with original story beats and gorgeous set work).
After your magical moment on the ride, you can spend this time roaming and getting lost in the whimsy of this Harry Potter World. Just make sure you catch one of the Le Cirque Arcanus shows as it’s my favorite in Epic Universe.

If you saved shopping, this is a solid window for souvenirs before the nighttime coaster run.
Evening: Celestial Park After Dark
Now it’s time for you to circle back to Celestial Park for night rides on Stardust Racers where the lighting package makes it feel like you’re racing comets across the sky.
Then slow it down with a spin on the Constellation Carousel (this ride will make you shed a tear… at least it did for me) or a fountain-side dessert before you call it a night.
At this point it’s time for dinner and I recommend dining at the Atlantic Restaurant.

The food tastes super fresh and you’ll get some of the most amazing views of Celestial Park from your seat. It’s such a vibe here and a place that you have to visit on your trip.
Quick Tips for Epic Universe
Since this is a new theme park in America, it wouldn’t feel right not giving you a few tips to help your day go smoother. You can get the full guide of tips here as well:
- Download and watch the app for wait times throughout the day
- Stack lower waits while headliners cool off
- Be flexible with portals as the lands are close, but shifting once can save 30–45 minutes later.
- Have lunch on the off peak times (outside of the 12 pm to 2 pm range)
- Stay on-site at Universal as hotel Early Entry is still clutch here.
- As a solo traveler, there are tons of great roaming entertainment and shady seating nooks since Epic is designed with “pause and savor” pockets all around Celestial Park.

- Wands
- T-shirts
- Mugs (because we all need one more mug, right?)
- Grab one last Butterbeer and one last snack you’ve been thinking about all week but “saving for later”
HIPSTER POWER TIP: I like to spend this day taking “goodbye photos.” This allows me to take in the details I missed before along with a final selfie with my favorite backdrop to remember the trip.
Evening: Reflect, Celebrate, Plan the Next Trip
As your 5-day Universal adventure comes to an end, it’s time for you enjoy:
- A relaxed dinner at CityWalk or your hotel.
