Calling ALL heroes, it’s time to assemble and head to the Avengers Campus!
This incredible new destination debuted at Disney California Adventure on June 4, 2021. The land is themed to the Marvel Cinematic Park Universe and is on the former shared grounds of Stark Industries and the Strategic Scientific Reserve Complex.
This complex is the original of the three planned ones that will be at different Disney Parks globally, whereas the other campuses will be located at Disneyland Paris, opening Summer 2022, and Hong Kong Disneyland, opening in 2023.
Since it opened and the additions of Marvel Cinematic Universe films and television shows, they have been adding characters, shows and more to the campus.
There are loads to see and do at Avengers Campus and even I didn’t get a chance to experience it all during my most recent visit! But fortunately, some local friends who joined me while I was visiting gave me some tips for the best things to do and try in Avengers Campus.
I am more than happy to share that with you for your future visits, so let’s dive into what the top 5 things there are to do in Avengers Campus!

5. Web Slingers: A Spiderman Adventure
The Web Slingers ride is the latest addition to Avengers Campus and honestly, it’s a bit overhyped for me. But let’s get into the details.
Web Slingers Ride Pre-Show
You are invited to WEB’s headquarters for an open house to experience a Tony Stark funded program for young engineers to create innovative technology for the world of tomorrow.
Peter attempts to tell you more about the program with the help of AI Sharon. He explains that we will be testing the WEB vehicles but the newest invention, Spider-bot malfunctions during the presentation and replicates itself. It turns chaotic as they could destroy the entire facility!
What to expect on Web Slingers: A Spiderman Adventure
You are then recruited to help Spider-man stop the bots by using the spider shoot web motion that he does to shoot webs and incapacitate the bots!
The vehicles take you through various places throughout Avengers Campus like Pym’s Test Kitchen, The Collector’s Tivan Collection and the Quinjet Hangar.
My thoughts on the Web Slinger Ride in the Avengers Campus
The ride overall is fun and be forewarned that it is TOUGH on the arms as you are constantly doing the motion as a consistent and fast rate to bump up your score.
It is similar to Ninjago: The Ride at Legoland Florida. While fun, I personally don’t know if it’s worth a wait high than 30-45 minutes, but at the very least is worth doing once!
Challenges with Web Slinger
The attraction has also come under a bit of criticism for the paid extra option called the “Web Power Band” which allows you to shoot multi webs during the ride.
In addition to that, there’s Web tech based on characters like Spiderman, Ghost Spider, Iron Man and rescue that you can add. These additions will upgrade and change your experience each time you ride.
The band is $35, and the tech is an additional $30 each. While it is optional, people didn’t react to it well. However, at the same time, if you enjoy the ride and want to have a different experience each time, it’s a great option for frequent visitors!

4. Eat at Pym’s Test Kitchen and Shawarma
Pym’s Test Kitchen
Serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant is known for its huge portion sizes as inspired by the film Ant-man.
For breakfast, the most recommended was the Impossible Quantum Garden Breakfast featuring a plant-based omelet with Impossible sausage, potato bites and focaccia toast. For lunch and dinner, you’ll want to sink your teeth into the not so little chicken sandwich and the Quantum pretzel.
The restaurant is amazingly themed, and the portion sizes make some of the entrees perfect to split amongst large parties, making it affordable!
There are options available for those with food allergies, those who want to try smaller versions of entrees and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
The story behind Shawarma Palace is fairly simple! After the battle of New York, the Avengers stopped in for a bite and were so grateful that they offered the owners to open a second location in Avengers Campus!
This quick service location is perfect for old and new fans alike! Serving up breakfast and snacks daily that are great for on the go as you explore the area.
You can also try the famous New York’s Tastiest chicken shawarma wrap with garlic spread and coconut yogurt tahini sauce with pickled vegetables or an Impossible version.
3. Watch the Incredible Dora Milaje
One of the amazing experiences of Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure is the entertainment and the Dora Milaje is not to be missed!
Their entrance alone is electric and exciting. The second you can hear the music from Black Panther, you just know something thrilling is about to happen. Crowds quickly form as they see Okoye and the Dora arrive on the scene.
The Dora Milaje introduces themselves during a show where they share fighting techniques, phrases and songs from Wakandan culture.
They allow crowd participation and sometimes it brings amazing moments. Recently, a viral moment shared a little girl expressing that her love of others makes her a great warrior when asked by Okoye.
Who are the Dora Milage?
If you don’t know, the Dora Milaje are an elite group of women Wakandan warriors that protect Wakanda and the current ruler of the nation at the time.
They are revered for their training in espionage, various fighting styles and use of technology with their styles. It is a cool way to get up close with the royal guard and gain some wisdom and skills.
2. Visit the Ancient Sanctum
The Ancient Sanctum is based on the training grounds where Doctor Strange gained all his wisdom and knowledge from in his first film. It can also be seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe animated tv show, “What If?”
According to the story, legend has it that Strange and unexplainable events happened in this area for many years. In the 1940s, for some reason, a Stark Industries complex was built there and Doctor Strange was invited to research and learn about the area. He was eventually able to disable the cloaking spells of the area and reveal the sanctum to all!
Here, you can gaze upon Doctor Strange as learn some of the secrets of the mystic arts and watch as he demonstrates his abilities.
You may even come face-to-face with the multiverse and even an Avenger! But you will want to ask about the Orb of Caligostro which is not far away from the sanctum.
Watching the Show at Night
At night, it gives off an out of the world glow, as its most active at night. Visit and take in the magical energy of the orb and the ruins it calls home.
This location is a great photo-op, particularly at night, and some Avengers’ friends can be found here too meeting with visitors!
Runner Up: Spiderman Stunt Show
Let me just say how hard it was to choose between this and the number one pick. I simply could not leave this one off the list though so at the very least I had to make it runner up. One of the most WOW parts about Avengers Campus is the Spiderman Stunt Show.
The show utilizes a performer and a stuntronic, a stunt double animatronic that makes it possible for safer stunts to be done and put on a phenomenal act for guests.
Disney Imagineering developed this tech over the years. It is achieved through the combination of advanced robotics and untethered movement, and this makes it possible for the animatronic to do aerial stunts that would normally not be possible or safe for humans to complete.
You can see more of how it was achieved here.
Just know that this is not to be missed and can be seen towards the entrance of Avengers Campus.
1. Take a Ride on Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout
If you recall, this ride originally was another incarnation of the popular Tower of Terror attraction, with the original being located at Hollywood Studios, Walt Disney Studios Park and Tokyo DisneySea.
However, it was the weakest of the tower incarnations and so it was replaced with Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout on May 27, 2017.
This attraction was originally in Hollywoodland, but was considered part of Avengers Campus once it opened in 2021.
Why do people love Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout?
What makes this attraction a crowd favorite, and to be honest better than its predecessor, is the fact that with each of the six drop sequences coincides different visuals and a classic song that goes with it.
You could possibly get one of the following songs on the Guardians of the Galaxy ride:
- Burning Love by Elvis
- Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf
- Hit Me with Your Best Shot by Pat Benatar
- I Want You Back by The Jackson Five
- Free Ride by The Edgar Winter Group
- Give Up the Funk by Parliament
Not to mention, the theming of the attraction is absolutely above and beyond! Any Marvel fan would absolutely impressed walking into the building.
Dare I say, this is one of the few attractions at Disneyland that I would consider buying a Lightning Lane A la Carte purchase for.
As you enter, you are surrounded by the collector’s Tivan Collection from the films.
Throughout the entire ride, there are over 35 hidden Disney and Marvel gems from Dolores the Octopus from Country Bear Vacation Hoedown to the animatronic remains of Tom Morrow from Innoventions to Adam Warlock’s Cocoon and Thor’s Stormbreaker from Avengers: Endgame. Multiple rides will be needed to see all of the gems!
Storyline of Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout
You will see that the Guardians have been trapped by the collector and are the latest addition to it!
If you notice, Rocket has managed to escape, and you just happen to be part of the mayhem that ensues as he causes chaos in the Tivan collection and busts the Guardians out in musical style with accompanying drop and visual sequences.
There is even a special appearance by Howard the Duck! You simply cannot beat everything that went into making this attraction a standout and ultimately a groovy time for everyone to enjoy!
Final Thoughts on Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure
Avengers Campus is far from complete, similar to Disneyland! There are plenty of heroes you can run into like Thor, Loki, Iron Man, Ant-man and Wasp, Black Panther, Gamora, Starlord, both incarnations of Captain America and many more!
The Future of Avengers Campus
And stay tuned for phase 2 of Avengers Campus where the E ticket Quinjet experience attraction will open.
No word on when it will as delays due to Chadwick Boseman’s passing. Because of this, Imagineering put a pause on the project to figure out how to plan as the attraction reportedly takes place in Wakanda.
The Black Panther Quinjet Experience
It was also reported that Imagineering wished to gauge audience reaction from audiences viewing the Black Panther sequel which has been pushed back as well due to delays surrounding Letitia Wright on set injury and pandemic related regulations for travel.
Because of this, and other delays from other MCU films, the sequel release date went from July 8, 2022, to November 11, 2022.
This will be the first ever Avengers attraction in existence where guests will board the Quinjet and help the heroes as they fight to save the world from an unnamed villain. I am assuming the new villain for the multiverse era which has yet to be named yet.
They will travel to Wakanda and beyond in this adventure and with us being in the multiverse era, I’m sure imagineering is trying to cook up a innovate ride system for the unique, first of its king, attraction
In the meantime, as more films and tv shows debut, the next one being Morbius which was just suddenly pushed back from its late January 2022 release date to April 1, 2022, being followed up by the highly anticipated Multiverse of Madness. We will most likely continue to see more exciting and fantastical additions to the campus.
